Magnificent Monarch Gets Stellar Sendoff from Longfellow Kindergartners
On Tuesday, October 3, kindergarten students and staff at Longfellow Elementary School were able to successfully tag and send off their first monarch butterfly for its long journey to Mexico. Principal Chris Doolittle worked with Bev Koenig, a retired teacher from Westerville City Schools, and Jeff Bracken, chemistry teacher at Westerville North, to get monarch caterpillars and hydroponically grown milkweed to feed them. The children learned about the life cycle of monarch butterflies, and were able to observe the caterpillar grow for more than a week, and then change into a chrysalis. The youngsters are currently watching for their other two chrysalides to eclose and leave for the warmer climate down south, as it is too cold in Ohio for them to survive . (See attachment)
The transportation department assigns your bus stop, pick-up and drop-off times based on your home address. If your student is being picked up or dropped off at a daycare provider, you must complete an alternate transportation form. Please visit the district's website at wcsoh.org and click on the "Transportation Services" link to find the 'Online Alternate Site Request Form". Complete and submit on-line. Please remember to keep your child's schedule as consistent as possible.
CAR DROP-OFF & PICK-UP—Cars may not park in the area marked for buses on Hiawatha Avenue in front of the Building. Pick-up and drop-off students in the parking lot at the orange traffic cone marked “student pick-up area”. Be sure to follow the painted arrows. A Longfellow Rocket Pick-Up card should be displayed on the dash of the car with the students first and last name clearly printed.
If you bring your child to school late and staff members are no longer on arrival duty, you will need to report to the office to sign your child into school for the day.
If your child is riding a bus to or from school be sure the bus tag is attached to the backpack. Click on this link to see a sample of the bus tag. http://www.wcsoh.org/Content2/ADK
