My name is Daphne Irby and I am the Elementary Math/Science Curriculum Specialist for the district. My primary role is to manage and publish the curriculum revision cycle, including review and development, material adoption, identification of instructional strategies and resources, identification of professional development and implementation. I also coach and support teachers as they work to increase student achievement. Some of my responsibilities include working within a team environment to determine what math and science instructional materials and resources are needed to meet the curricular demands of Ohio's New Learning Standards in our primary and intermediate grades, working with teachers to create and implement assessments that are aligned with the new standards to help increase student achievement and providing professional development for district initiatives. I also provide support in analyzing student performance data, coaching teachers on research-based instructional practices and data analysis in the mathematics and science content areas.
A little bit about me, I taught 3rd grade at Alcott for six years. The last 2 years, I was a Technology Integration Specialist for 4 schools. I was responsible for helping teachers integrate technology into their classrooms. This year, I took on the role of the Math/Science Curriculum Specialist for Elementary (K-5). I actually received my degree in Chemical Engineering at Auburn University many years ago and worked in manufacturing for about 10 years. Then, I decided to pursue my true passion, teaching, and taught preschool for several years while I attended school and received my teacher’s license. I received my Master's Degree from Otterbein in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012 and in 2014, I received another Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and received my administrator's license.
I want all of you to feel comfortable calling me with any questions or concerns. School email is actually the best way to reach me, firstname.lastname@example.org. I am really looking forward to this school year. I want this to be a fun and rewarding year for all of us!
