Elisabeth Fleckenstein’s second grade class at McVay Elementary School participated in the Columbus Blue Jackets Book Jackets reading program. This reading incentive activity includes lesson plans in language arts, social studies, math, writing, and physical education. The students completed one of the language arts lesson plans in which they read and discussed a story about a day in the life of Stinger, mascot for the Blue Jackets. They learned about all the fun and important activities Stinger is responsible for during his day. The pupils then wrote letters to Stinger telling about a day in their life and asking him and the players questions about their jobs and hockey. Fleckenstein submitted the completed letters and lesson plan to the Book Jackets program and was chosen to receive a visit from Stinger himself on April 12. He visited with the excited students, answered questions, gave autographs, and posed for pictures with the class.
