Classes may be out, but the fun is just beginning for elementary school administrators who will be attending the first annual Westerville City Schools Core Camp on May 29 and 30 at the Early Learning Center.

Camp leaders David Baker, Executive Director of Elementary Academic Affairs, and Jen Knapp, Director of Curriculum Services, are hosting the Elementary Core Camp, a creative endeavor designed to help school leaders navigate the waters and paths of the 2012-13 school year.

Camp sessions will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon on both days. The May 29 experience will feature workshops like the Fire Circle (a magical tour of the English Language Arts Common Core curriculum); Lake Good (first and second grade Common Core standards for mathematics); Mt. McClellan (new standards for science and social studies); and a closing activity in the Jackowski Mess Hall involving solving math problems with s’mores.
On the second day, campers will learn about the new Third Grade Reading Guarantee; how the RtI process relates to the Common Core Curriculum; survival techniques in progress monitoring; and the new Ohio Teacher Evaluation System.
