Academic Enrichment Center Earns 2015 Apex Learning Award of Excellence

Westerville Centenarian Frieda Bennett Honored by Board of Education

The Westerville City Schools Board of Education presented Frieda Bennett, who celebrated her 100th birthday on May 30, with a Centenarian Proclamation during its regular meeting on June 8.

Westerville City Schools Announces Summer Food Service Program

The Westerville City Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program.  Meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge. (To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential or nonresidential camp, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. The income guidelines for reduced-price meals by family size are listed below.)  Children who are part of households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly foods stamps) benefits, or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible to receive free meals.

Safety City Teaches Youngsters how to Protect Themselves from Harm

Robert Frost Elementary School will be bustling with activity for the next couple weeks as teachers, teen helpers, firemen and police officers educate 360 soon-to-be kindergarten students about staying safe.  Westerville Safety City is an annual event operated by a non-profit organization.

Bette Marschall Grants Awarded to Educators

The Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation has announced the recipients of nine grant awards totaling $3,221 to Westerville City Schools personnel for applications submitted this spring.

Mobile Care Center will Offer Immunizations at Early Learning Center on August 26

According to State Law and district policy, up-to-date immunizations are required for all school aged children.  It is the goal of the Westerville City School District to help families meet these requirements by partnering with Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) and its Mobile Care Center.

District Announces Adjustment to First Day of School for Students in 2015-16

Westerville City School District officials today announced that the first day of class for students in grades 1-12 has been changed for next school year from Wednesday, August 12, 2015, to Thursday, August 13, 2015.  Kindergarten and preschool students will still have a gentle start to the school year with their first day of class scheduled for August 17, 2015.

Westerville Schools and WARM Provide Meals through the Kids Lunch Club

Westerville City Schools will be working with the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM) once again to provide meals to students this summer.  The 2015 season of the Westerville Area Kids Lunch Club will run weekdays from May 26 through August 7, rain or shine, at 10 sites, all open to children ages 1-18.  Participants are invited to stay after lunch for about an hour of educational or recreational activities.   Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Westerville City Schools Launch Student Connections Initiative with Support from Westerville Education Foundation

At the Westerville Education Foundation’s (WEF) inaugural Celebration of Education, Innovation & Inspiration, held at the Everal Barn this morning, Westerville City Schools Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg announced a new district initiative called Student Connections.  The program will connect students to diverse literature, mentors and tutors, as well as create opportunities to engage and address issues surrounding students’ social and emotional needs. Students also will focus on creating pathways that connect them to careers and college opportunities, as well as increase their academic achievement.
