BOE to Meet in January

The Westerville City Schools Board of Education will meet at 6:00 p.m. for its Organizational and Regular meeting on Monday, January 12, 2015 in the Board Training Room at the Early Learning Center, which is located at 936 Eastwind Drive in Westerville.  The District shall make reasonable accommodation for disabled persons to be able to participate in this activity.  Please call 797-5713 or e-mail BeckJ@westerville.k12.oh.us.

Westerville City Schools Athletic Fees Can Now Be Paid Through EZPAY

SPS EZPay is a secure and convenient website application that allows parents to add to their child’s meal account or pay school, class, activity fees, and/or Pre-School Tuition over the Internet using any Visa or MasterCard (including Debit Visa and MasterCard).  Though the EZPay online payment system has been around for some time, there is now an option to pay all or a portion of the athletic fees.

Student Leaders at Pointview Organize Food Drive to Benefit Westerville Christian

The Student Leadership Team at Pointview Elementary School organized a food drive from December 8-12 to benefit Westerville Christian Church.  Westerville Christian provides Friday Fare backpacks for 13 Westerville schools, which are filled with food for meals that students can take home over the weekend.  The Pointview team wanted to give back to this organization that helps others so generously.

Fifteenth Annual Westerville Community Bowl-a-Thon Slated for February 21, 2015

It’s time to make plans to participate in the 15th annual Westerville Community Bowl-a-Thon! The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace, 5705 Forest Hills Blvd.  Funds raised from this event benefit the Westerville Chamber Foundation, the Westerville Education Foundation, and the Westerville Symphony at Otterbein.

High Schools bring in more than $38,000 for Caring & Sharing

The holiday season will be brighter for many local families who are struggling this year, thanks to the efforts of students and staff in the Westerville City School District.  When totals were tallied on Friday, December 13, the charity received $38,209 to help needy families in the community.

Westerville Central Students Partake in Physics Challenge

Westerville Central High School physics teachers Craig Bulger and Danny Hunt designed an inquiry style lab that challenged their students to roll a steel ball bearing off a table and land it inside a cup on the floor, which was a known distance away.  Doesn’t sound that hard until one considers that the pupils were not allowed to conduct any pre-trial testing.

Alcott Food Drive Nets 3,369 Pounds of Food for WARM

Once again this year, the annual Alcott Elementary School food drive for the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM) was a huge success.  Spearheaded by Mike Mazzon’s fifth grade students, the Alcott community collected 3,369 pounds of food for families in need.

Rotary Club of Westerville Names December Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at the Medallion Club held on Thursday, December 11.  December students are:  Ladan Barnes, Westerville North High School; Ali Chaudhry, Westerville South High School; and Mackenzie Kraker, St. Francis DeSales High School.

Book Bonanza Provides Reading Material for Students at Huber Ridge Elementary School

Westerville Partners for Education (WPE) and the Westerville Kiwanis Club brought their Book Bonanza to students at Huber Ridge Elementary School on December 4.  The two sponsoring groups collected books from local bookstores, parents, club members, and even pupils from other schools.
