Dear Hanby Families,
Happy Fall! The month of October brings fun for the family-such as apple picking and visits to the pumpkin patch. It also means the end of hot summer days! As the weather does begin to get cooler outside, inside of the building your children are still working very hard! Please make sure you have signed up for a conference time with your child’s teacher during conference days in October (Note: There will be No School for Students on October 16th, 23rd and 24th due to Professional Development and Parent conference days.)! You do not want to miss this opportunity to check in with your child’s teacher on things that are going well and anything that may need refinement! Please also know that our door is always open to you! If you can not attend any of the designated conference dates in October, please make arrangements to attend an alternate time. The Home School Connection is essential to student success!
New this month I hope that you enjoy a new section to our newsletter featuring our Art, Music, and Physical Education teachers. Each month in the Specialist’s Section they will share with you the curriculum and activities that are taking place in their classrooms! We want to make sure you are aware of all of the wonderful things that are happening at Hanby!
Other Important Information:
YOGA IN THE CLASSROOMS: I am excited to share that later this month, the Hanby staff will be trained on using Yoga in the Classroom. Research shows that taking “Brain Breaks” during the day will help students stay focused and achieved at higher levels! We are very excited about this and look forward to incorporating it into our day! If you would like more information please visit the following website:
TENTATIVE TESTING DATES FOR GRADE 3: Parents of Grade 3 students, please save the dates December 3 and 4. Students will take their English Language Arts State Standardized Test on these dates at 9:00am. We ask that you do not schedule vacations or appointments on these days. Please note that testing dates for Grades 3-5 in the Spring will be released very soon! Communication will be sent out as soon as they are determined. Please check the Westerville City School’s Website for the most up to date information.
SMARTSATHON: A huge thank you to the PTA and all of the volunteers that helped make our annual SMARTSATHON a success! I would also like to thank those that sent in pledges with the students. These pledges help fund the many learning experiences and field trips that take place here at Hanby such as our All School Field trip to Ballet Met, visits to the Columbus Museum of Art, and COSI on Wheels. If you or someone you knew did not get a chance to make a pledge/donation it isn’t too late! Also, if you have time in your schedule, please consider attending the upcoming PTA meeting on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 7:00pm. Babysitting will be provided!
In closing, thank you for your continued support of Hanby! We appreciate all that you do!
Monica Brown, Principal
