Building Message

Dear Hanby Families,

As we begin the month of September, I wanted to make sure you were aware of the many exciting things that are happening at Hanby!

MAGNET POWER HOUR:  In addition to the daily integration of your child’s chosen Magnet Strand (i.e. Math/Science or Arts), every “C” day is Magnet Power Hour! Magnet Power Hour the time when students become laser focused on their specific magnet strand. The Magnet Power Hour allows students various enrichment learning opportunities aimed at enhanced learning experiences regarding their chosen area of focus (i.e. Arts or Math/Science). Students will engage in conducting research, enjoy special guest speakers and/or complete group/independent projects. During the Magnet Power Hour students may work with their own teachers and possibly other teachers from their assigned Magnet Strand.  Flexible grouping will be used so that students have the opportunity to partner with students in other grade levels who share their passion for their chosen Magnet Strand.

SPIRIT DAY: In honor of our new Magnet Power Hour, every “C” Day will be Spirit Day! Students and Staff are invited to wear their Hanby t-shirts every “C” Day!

PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support):  Students are working hard to focus on doing it “The Hanby Way!”  which is outlined in our Student Expectations Handbook..  The staff at Hanby supports this with the use of PBIS.  PBIS is used district wide, and is a researched based, team and systematic approach in teaching behavioral expectations throughout the school. It is based on a proactive model which teaches the behaviors, reinforces and recognizes students who are able to model these behaviors and has systems in place to support students who have a difficult time or may present with more challenging behaviors.  It also involves practicing routines as well as providing more structure in common areas such as the hallways, lunchroom, and recess.

HANBY HAPPY TICKETS:   Students caught doing it “The Hanby Way” receive a Hanby Happy ticket to place in the treasure chest in the office. Every Friday we draw Hanby Happy Tickets to reward and recognize those who are doing it the Hanby Way! The team approach is what truly makes this system work and we really need every family’s support to help us be successful. You can help by reviewing the expectations outlined in the handbook and discussing their role in the learning community to help ensure Hanby continually has a positive learning environment.

YAHOO GROUP: If you have not done so already, please be sure to join the Hanby PTA  Yahoo Group. It is the best way to stay informed about PTA events, as well as receive my weekly parent updates-The Hanby Happenings! You don’t have to have a Yahoo account to receive the messages but must provide a valid email address. You can join today by sending an email to hanbypta-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Thank you for your continuous support of Hanby!
