Hanby Magnet
Building Message

Hello Hanby Families!

What a fantastic opening we have had for the 2014-2015 school year! It has been a pleasure to meet each and every student and their families!  To those I have not met, please stop in to visit me! My door is always open to you!

As the new principal I wanted to take some time to share some information about me! I have been an educator for 16 years. During that time I have been fortunate to have had various professional roles such as teacher (8 years), reading consultant (3 years) and principal (7 years). I am honored and excited to be a part of Westerville City Schools and the principal of the Magnet School Programs!   On a personal note, I am originally from Mississippi. You will not hear an accent because my father was in the Air Force so we lived in a variety of places. Born in Maine, I have also lived in Germany, Turkey, North Dakota, Kansas, Arkansas and Mississippi.  I have lived in Columbus, OH since 1997. I am married.   My husband, Charles, and I will celebrate our ten year Anniversary on September 4. We have two children-Alyson, age 8 and Jillian, age 2. I am very involved in their education and I want to reassure you that you have my promise to treat your child as my very own!

As you probably already know, your child is truly receiving a high quality education at Hanby Magnet School! Your continued support of the educational program is truly appreciated!   We had a fantastic turn out for Curriculum Night and look forward to continuous parental involvement! It was evident to me that everyone  truly values and supports the great things that are happening at Hanby!

I am pleased to share that we have had a great deal of community support during the opening weeks of school!   For example, during Curriculum Night students from Otterbein bought to Hanby the Instrumental Petting Zoo. While at the Instrumental Petting Zoo, students had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of instruments. We are also delighted to welcome the Westerville Partners in Education (WPE) on September 2 with their Book Bonanza!  Each third grade student will receive a free book courtesy of the WPE! These are just a few of the many special things happening at Hanby!

In closing, I am highly focused on supporting our teachers and families with increasing academics and implementing our Magnet Program.  Every thing we do this school year will be purposeful and focused on the vision and mission (see vision and mission statements below).  I also ask that you never hesitate to stop in, call, or email me if there is ever anything I can do to support you or your child.  I believe strongly in the impact that a team can make and I highly encourage you to work together with our great staff at Hanby to continue providing an excellent education to your child!

Thank you for your continued support! I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

Warmest regards,

Monica Brown, Principal
