Dear Hanby Families,
It is almost that time again with less than three weeks until the 2015 - 2016 school year starts! I am excited to begin my second year at Hanby and I hope all our families are ready for another great year! If you are new to Hanby, “Welcome! We are so glad you selected us as part of your child’s education!”
This school year I would like to welcome new staff members Mrs. Michelle Andears (3rd Grade Arts), Mrs. Diane Plumb (3rd Grade Math Science) and Mrs. Rebecca Havens (4th Grade Arts) to the Hanby Family! I am also excited to share that Mrs. Smith (formerly Mrs. Norris-she was recently married) and Mrs. Reeves will be teaching first grade this year! We also will have a new Physical Education Teacher-Gabriel James, Intervention Teacher-Jennifer Secrest and a new Art Teacher-Liz Schar. Please join me in welcoming everyone to the Hanby Family!
Students will return on August 13th, but before the big day arrives we have several other events for you to attend!
Students will have the opportunity to learn teacher/room assignments at our “Back to School” Registration Days. These days are scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, August 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. OR
Wednesday, August 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Soon you will receive a Back to School Packet of information in the US Mail. In this packet you will find several items that we need you to complete and return on either the 4th or 5th. Specifically, we need you to fill out the enclosed Student Emergency Card and any other of the forms that apply to your family. Our 2015 – 2016 Parent/Student Handbook is posted on our WCS website for your convenience. We will have a limited supply of printed handbooks on hand on back to school days. Please also see the downloadable file at the bottom of this message to review information specific to Hanby. On the 4th and 5th we will have additional information for you and you may pay school fees on this day as well. Our PTA will be on hand for membership sign-up and provide an opportunity to pick up the pre-ordered school supplies. Students will also have the opportunity to have a popsicle with the principal at Back to School Days! “Pop” in to visit the principal and you will receive a freeze pop treat provided by our PTA! I hope you can stop by for Popsicles with the Principal!
The next event we want to make sure you have on your calendar is the Open House/ Meet the Teacher event scheduled for Tuesday, August 11th from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Open House is a time for you and your family to meet the teacher, come take a sneak peak at the classrooms and drop off school supplies.
There is one other event we want to make sure you have on your calendars and that is our Curriculum Night scheduled for Wednesday, August 26th from 6:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Curriculum Night is an opportunity for parents to come to school and learn about the curriculum that will be covered during the school year as well as learn the routines and procedures of the classroom. First, second and third grades will meet from 6:15 to 7:00 and fourth and fifth grade will meet from 7:15-8:00.
After the excitement of the opening of school, the Hanby PTA is sponsoring the Annual Back to School Picnic. This event will be September 3rd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metzger Park. We can always use parent volunteers for this fun time! Make sure you stop by the PTA table at Back to School Days for more info about this and other exciting PTA events!
In closing, my door is always open to you no matter what day of the week! Please simply contact the office or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need anything! I am always here to help! Your child is my priority!
I look forward to seeing everyone in just a few short weeks! If you have any questions prior to registration, please feel free to call the office at 797-7100 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
