Serving a culturally and economically diverse, 52-square mile area in northeastern Franklin County and southern Delaware County, Westerville City Schools meet the needs of approximately 85,000 residents. The district is comprised of 23 schools – sixteen elementaries, four middle schools, and three high schools. At the end of the 2006-2007 school year, enrollment in the 10th largest district in Ohio stood at approximately 14,308 pupils.
Students in Westerville City Schools continue to meet or exceed the average passing rates for both Franklin County and Ohio on the State Achievement Tests. Westerville provides academic support, an International Baccalaureate curriculum, advanced placement, postsecondary options, dual enrollment, interactive video courses, able and talented resource centers, elementary magnet school programs in the Arts, World Languages & Culture, Math and Science, school-age before-and after-school child care, active business partnerships, and programs for some 1,400 special needs students. The district is committed to the development and expansion of technology. Every school is connected to the Internet and is internally wired and equipped with up-to-date computers and software. The system’s emphasis on learning is reflected in the operating budget, where the majority of every General Fund dollar is invested in instruction.
Westerville is further recognized for its rich history of excellence in the arts and in athletics. The district promotes the involvement of students in a wide array of extracurricular opportunities that contribute to the future success of its students.
Westerville City Schools has a reputation as a high performing, exemplary public school district, and is rated “effective” on the State of Ohio Report Card for the 2006-2007 school year. For the sixteenth year in a row, Westerville City Schools met the criteria for having “What Parents Want” in education, a designation awarded by SchoolMatch. In addition, Expansion Management magazine again rated Westerville City Schools as a Gold Medal School District, a rank given only to the top 16% of all school districts nationally. The Westerville tradition of excellence is based on collaboration between students, staff, administrators, parents and the community.
Improving achievement for every student is our highest priority.
Sincerely,
Dr. Christopher Wanner 6/1/2007
